Dermapen® device utilizes 11 tiny micro-needles contained within its disposable tip that create minute vertical micro-wounds in the skin and thus stimulate the natural renewal mechanism resulting in collagen production. This is further enhanced by the release of growth factors from various cells below the skin surface. This process causes little inflammation; therefore it is much safer than laser treatments almost eliminating the risk of scarring or post-treatment hyperpigmentation.
Dermapen® is safe for all skin types and 4 to 5 treatments are needed spaced approximately a month apart. Post-treatment redness lasts approximately only 24 hours. Prior to the treatment, numbing cream is applied to the treated area for 20 to 30 minutes minimizing any discomfort associated with the procedure.
Since the introduction of Dermapen® micro-needling to our Chevy Chase practice, it has become one of our patients' favorite face and neck rejuvenation techniques. Dr. Margaret Sommerville working together with our capable aesthetic staff developed a truly custom way of treating facial wrinkles and acne scars with Dermapen®. In addition to treating the entire face and neck, we are able to specifically focus on the problem areas such as the crepiness on the lower eyelids, crow's feet and vertical lines on the upper lip.
Cosmetic dermatologist, Dr. Margaret Sommerville, welcomes patients from the entire Washington, DC metropolitan area including Chevy Chase, Bethesda, Potomac, Rockville, Kensington, Silver Spring, and Olney in Maryland, as well as Arlington, Alexandria, McLean and Great Falls in Virginia.
